Some of the observations made in the study might be linked with the change in sleep pattern, and altered sleep pattern is due to memory impairment. But, the exact reason for memory impairment is still not known.

One of the research was done at the University of California and it was funded by NIH. The study was covered on the topic of increased change in sleep due to memory issues and dementia but it is not known whether these changes are consequence or cause.

In the research 15 older adults were enrolled along above the age of 75 with 18 healthy young adults above the age of 21.

People who have brain disorders, depressive symptoms, psychiatric disorders, and taking medications have a negative effect on the brain. The participants who were included in the study need to do a memory task. Some of the words were real and some of them did not make any sense.

Before they went to sleep, they were asked to memorize the words. On some people, after a training test was done.

The participants had 8 hours of sleep and at that time the brain waves were monitored. The brain functioning was done through MRI to look at how the brain responds.

With the increased blood flow in certain parts of the brain, it means the neural activity rises. With the scan, it helps to know which part of the brain is more active.
